THE CHALLENGE A WALL OF STEEL
You can see it in almost every coffee bar around the world. A wall of steel, also known as the traditional bulky espresso machine. Put in front, it separates the baristas from their customers; placed against the back, it forces the baristas to turn their back on people. Where others accepted this as a given, we saw an opportunity.
UNDER COUNTER UNIT FOR ENHANCED INTERACTIONS
Nexus One machine, the new under-counter espresso machine, was constructed with the goal of enhancing the social interactions between baristas and customers. With its unique design, it has switched the above-counter equipment to an airy, minimalist see-through structure. From the first glance, you can easily spot the differences between the classic above-counter espresso machine and this MICE Innovation Awards winner. The boilers, pumps, group-heads, and other accessories are hidden inside the Nexus One machine unlike other espresso systems such as Modbar or Mavam. It maintains a traditional espresso machine outline with a built in window.
THE THINKING OPEN THE WINDOW
Every problem is also a window of opportunity. You just have to open it up. And that’s what we did. We literally designed a hole in the wall. Created less machine and more experience. So the connection between the customer and the coffee master – as we like to call true baristas – is optimized to the max.
THE BREAKTHROUGH TECH MADE EASY
Real magic happens when you are able to translate technology into ease of use. To let all engineering possibilities available work together in order to produce a quality product like no other. We think we did. Therefor we proudly present a breakthrough concept that will redesign the world of coffee: NEXUS ONE.
EFFICIENT STEAM AND TEMP CONTROL
The machine has digital hydraulics, made with copper, brass and stainless, and with adjustable steam and coffee temperature. The machine’s dedicated Boiler is made of copper and stainless steel, with 1.2 or 1.5 mm supplied. Its built-in economizer helps produce an electronic dosage of hot water all the time. The desired hot water temperature is achieved using a cold water tempering valve after the boiler to get the temperature desired fast while maintaining boiler efficiency.
WEIGHT-BASED EXTRACTION VIA WEXUS
This feature allows the barista to extract coffee based on weight, which helps ensure that the perfect brew ratio is achieved at all times.
PERFECT ESPRESSO EVERY TIME
Each insulated head can produce 1 liter of coffee per head. The technology-design integrated to the group head helps ensure that the fluctuation in temperature is less than 0.2°C, helping you extract the perfect coffee every time. Thanks to Wexus’ Steam Control System, hot steam preserves while cooler steam is circulated back to the boiler.
USER CENTERED DESIGN
Everything about the Wexus is designed with customer experience in mind. The handles are made for easier and stronger grip. The chassis curvature ensures that the groups are within the barista’s line of sight. It also has an LED spot light that complements the coffee making experience.
